Food Bank Keeps on Truckin'

What’s the first thing you think of when someone mentions the Food Bank? For the food bank’s operations team, one of the first things that comes to mind is a truck – where is it going, when will it get there, what’s inside, who’s driving it, and what happens to it next? Multiplied by a lot!

The food bank campus is a busy place. In an average week, we’re driving food out to six mobile pantry sites; delivering backpacks full of food to twenty schools; dropping food off at a dozen partner agencies; and sending meals to ten afterschool programs. Meanwhile in the same week we’ll usually receive at least five food orders from purchases, the USDA and Feeding America; we’ll accept a couple of truckloads with donated food from producers or food drives; and we’ll pick up food donations 45 times a week from grocery stores like Albertsons, Kroger, Target, Super1, Sam’s Club, and six regional Walmart stores. More than 180,000 pounds of food moves into and out of our food bank campus every week!

Needless to say, there always seems to be a truck arriving with a food delivery or leaving for a food distribution. Our drivers are everywhere! So next time you see a truck or van sporting the food bank logo around town, you’ll know we’re doing our best to help our neighbors somewhere around Cenla.

Feel free to give the driver a big thank-you wave! #fighthunger
