Senior Program

The Food Bank of Central Louisiana and the Senior program

The Senior Program was designed to help supplement impoverished seniors' nutritional needs so that they are not faced with the difficult decision of choosing between medicine, rent and food. Seniors in the program receive 50 pounds of food per month for a year.

The average age of the participants in the program is 81 and the average income is $967 per month. Eligibility is limited to those whose income falls below federal poverty guidelines and whose age is at least 65 or 60 and disabled.

The Senior Program currently provides food for more than 1,100 seniors, but there are people still in need.
