Temptingly sweet Strawberries


Colorful, juicy and temptingly sweet. It's easy to see why strawberries are America's favorite berry. Like many other fruits, they're available year-round, but nothing beats the flavor of local, seasonal strawberries. If you can't pick them fresh from your garden and are shopping at the local market, look for bright read berries without bruises or moldy spots, and give the berries a sniff. a strong, sweet strawberry fragrance indicates flavorful berries. Fresh strawberries are highly perishable, so use them as soon as possible after you buy them. To add an extra day or two of freshness, remove them from containers and arrange them in a single layer in a flat, covered container before refrigerating. Just before using, wash the berries under cool water and remove their green caps with a paring knife or strawberry stemmer.

Strawberries taste best when allowed reach room temperature. If they're not particularly juicy, mixing a little honey with the sliced berries will help and make them even tastier. Strawberries are fiber rich and contain up to three times more vitamin C than other berries. They are an excellent source of manganese and full of folate.

Celebrate the taste of strawberries in many ways. Add them to your chicken salad. Make your own fruit cocktail with fresh fruit and include grapes, pineapple, sliced peaches, and strawberries. Drizzle a small amount of honey on top of the fruit mixture for an extra sweet treat. Mix them into a spinach salad with walnuts and goat cheese. Toast a whole grain bagel and top with Neufchatel cheese and strawberries. Enjoy!!!!!
