A Working community Garden
The Good Food Project, supported by a grant from Keller Enterprises, is administered through the Food Bank of Central Louisiana.
The Good Food Project demonstration garden is a working community garden, which serves as a living laboratory. It is located next to the Food Bank Warehouse at 3223 Baldwin Avenue in Alexandria, LA Experiential gardening takes place each Wednesday at this location. Additionally, sustainable gardening practices are taught at community gardens and outreach sites across the eleven parishes served by the Food Bank. Harvests are distributed to Food Bank clients and other needs-based CENLA area soup kitchens and shelters. "Our goal is to educate people about how to grow their own food in a sustainable garden. Not only are we offering practical life skills about growing food and good nutrition, but we are also sharing a peaceful, therapeutic setting that can help others develop a life-long love of gardening," said Frances Boudreaux, Director of the Good Food Project.
The Food Bank of Central Louisiana is a non-profit organization whose mission is "to alleviate hunger" in Central Louisiana. The Food Bank distributes food and grocery products to needy families through a network of approved charitable agencies in eleven parishes: Allen, Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, LaSalle, Natchitoches, Rapides, Sabine, Vernon and Winn.
